Timeline
October 2022: Paducah, KY to Wilmington, NC – We found the Airstream (we eventually named her Nome) for sale online from a guy in northwest Kentucky, made a deal, and drove 12+ hours to pick her up. Then we took her all the way back home to Wilmington – it was our first time towing an RV, and we were so nervous something would go horribly wrong. But it didn't! We drove only a few hours the first day to a campground near Knoxville, TN, then made the rest of the drive to Wilmington the next day, through the mountains in peak leaf season.
October 2022-April 2023: Wilmington, NC – Nome was parked in Wilmington in Joey's family's backyard (where we had full hookups by their extra garage!) for several months while we still lived in Raleigh. Once our lease was up in March, we moved into the Airstream. We hung out in Wilmington for a while, getting used to living full-time in an RV, doing some maintenance, and buying supplies we needed.
April 2023: MerleFest in Wilkesboro, NC – We took Nome on her maiden voyage to our favorite music festival, MerleFest, in western North Carolina. We go every year, usually tent camping, and got engaged at the festival in 2021! It was a good year to upgrade to an RV – the entire weekend was super rainy and muddy.
On the way, we stopped by Adrienne's parents' house in Denver, NC, to drop Hollie off for the weekend, and then picked her up on our way back to Wilmington. (Thanks Mom & Dad!)
May 2023-October 2023 – On the road! We set sail for the open road in late May to travel full-time for the summer/fall. Our first destination was Fayetteville, West Virginia... and you can see the rest of the journey on the map! (Check out our blog posts for more details on each destination).
October 2023 – Headed back home! After visiting Glacier National Park the last couple weeks of September, we started the long cross-country trip back home. We stayed put in North Carolina visiting family & friends, fixing / upgrading some things for Nome and Tex (our truck) and enjoying the holidays at home... until we were ready to hit the road again.
January 2024-present – We started round 2 of full-time RV travels in late January – this time planning to spend time mainly in the southwest for the winter, before the weather got too hot. We traveled across the Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and southern Utah before making our way north for the summer. Joey has a seasonal job in Glacier National Park, and we'll be staying just outside the park in St Mary, Montana from late May until sometime in September!
